Black Beginnings

Raised in one of the most infamous and unchanging pure-blood families in the wizarding world, Regulus Arcturus Black grows up knowing a few simple truths: the Blacks are superior, tradition and blood are everything, and the outside world is a place of unspeakable evil; Muggles eat little boys and other wizards would gladly let them. This is why he is kept inside, and why his world is limited to a distant, rebellious brother, a volatile mother, a stern father – and his cousins, of course: strange Andromeda, perfect Narcissa, and devout Bellatrix with her dangerous talk and promises of greatness. With the wizarding world moving towards open war, Regulus learns to see the world exactly as he is meant to.

Leaving Grimmauld Place

Get out.

The words echoed in his head. He’d meant get out of the room, of course. Go upstairs and stay there until he could behave himself, until he was ready to apologise and pretend to be the son they wanted.

But as he stood there, in his bedroom, staring at the pictures on his walls, as he had done all holiday so far, something that had nagged him in the back of his mind for days, if not years, suddenly came to him in full force.
